Beach Camping

Sandy Cape

The Sandy Cape Recreation Park is a Shire campground and recreation area in Jurien Bay.

Access to this beautiful, idyllic campground is via a well sign-posted sealed 2WD road 10 km north of the Jurien Bay townsite.

The Park is popular with campers and day visitors for its protected, white sandy beaches, perfect for swimming, snorkelling, fishing, and sandboarding the dunes.

Sandy Cape has 88 dedicated campsites suitable for individual campers and large caravans with additional sites available for self-contained visitors with high clearance 4WDs. The additional sites are located north and south of the main campground.

Gas BBQs, flushing toilets and (cold) showers are available in the southern section and long-drop toilets are available at the northern end. There is no power on-site and campers will need their own water.

Campfires are subject to a restricted burning period – please check on restrictions prior to travel.

Pets are welcome but will need to be on a lead in the campground.

Currently there is no booking system for staying at Sandy Cape. The sites operate on a ‘first-in, first-served’ basis with a maximum stay of 4 nights.

Camping fees apply and can be paid at the honour box in the information bay along the entry road or to the caretakers on-site.

Milligan Island Eco-Campsite

Milligan Island is an eco-campsite north of Green Head near Billy Goat Bay.

Access is 2WD via gravel roads off the north entry road into Green Head, and is suitable for large caravans and expanding camper trailers.

The coastline adjacent to the campground is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, paddleboarding and kitesurfing with shallow reef systems and close islands for birdwatching. The beaches are shallow and protected providing a safe water play area for younger children.

Nearby is Point Louise, a popular advanced snorkelling site and surf break.

Campfires are not permitted.

Camp fees apply and can be paid to the caretaker on-site.

Wanagarren Nature Reserve

Wanagarren is a beachside camping area within the Wanagarren Nature Reserve between Wedge Island and Grey.

The campsite is managed by Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and has 15 designated coastal campsites. Each site is well separated from the next and sites are available only to self-contained campers. There is no water or ablution facilities available.

Firepits are provided but there is no firewood on-site (campers will need to bring their own).

Campfires are only permitted between April and October but seasonal changes to restricted burn times may occur with little notice. Please check before you arrive.

It is recommended to reduce your tyre pressures before accessing the area. Be aware that the entry track is narrow with sand dune crests, and you may encounter vehicles cresting the dunes in the opposite direction.
